چکیده

Artefact processing is an important issue in automated analysis of the sleep EEG. Nine artefact types were identified and their frequency of occurrence was analysed in 15 all-night sleep recordings from eight European sleep laboratories. Three artefact detection methods were evaluated with the area-under-ROC-curve (AUC), eight artefact minimisation methods were validated visually. Recommended methods are overflow detection, adaptive inverse filtering for movement and muscle detection, adaptive FIR filtering for ECG minimisation and 50Hz notch filtering.

Effects of signal artefacts on electroencephalography spectral power during sleep: quantifying the effectiveness of automated artefact-rejection algorithms.

Electroencephalography (EEG) recordings during sleep are often contaminated by muscle and ocular artefacts, which can affect the results of spectral power analyses significantly. However, the extent to which these artefacts affect EEG spectral power across different sleep states has not been quantified explicitly. Consequently, the effectiveness of automated artefact-rejection algorithms in min...

Eog and Ecg Minimization Based on Regression Analysis

A method based on regression analysis is presented that can be used for automatic minimization of EOG and ECG artifacts in the sleep EEG. INTRODUCTION It is known that the non-cortical activity gives a contribution to the EEG recordings. Electrooculogram (EOG), the electrocardiagram (ECG) and muscle activity (EMG) are the most important non-cortical sources. For sleep analysis it is important t...

Caffeine attenuates paradoxical sleep deprivation induced- memory impairment during paradoxical sleep windows in rats

There is considerable evidence to support the hypothesis of relationship between paradoxical sleep (PS) and learning–memory processing. It has been suggested that PS is important in memory retention at the specific time course called PS windows (PSW). The time of PSWs occurrence and duration of these PSWs following the training sessions and, the neurochemical nature of PSWs has not been well kn...

Introduction of low to high frequencies bispectrum rate feature for deep sleep detection from awakening by electroencephalogram

Background: Accurate detection of deep sleep (Due to the low frequency of the brain signal in this part of sleep, it is also called slow-wave sleep) from awakening increases the sleep staging accuracy as an important factor in medicine. Depending on the time and cost of manually determining the depth of sleep, we can automatically determine the depth of sleep by electroencephalogram (EEG) signa...
